Once you have got the answer you want and your date is a definite, it is time to start planning where to go and what to do. When arranging a first date you don’t want to look like it is all about you; take your dates' interests into consideration and suggest something that is suitable for both of you. Read on for some advice on making sure your first date is a successful one.

Get it out of the way. Try to make a date sooner rather than later, waiting a long time can lead to loss of interest and an awkward meet-up. Don’t call to suggest a date sometime in the future. Once you make the first call try to meet up within a week.

Think about where you and your date live (if you know) and aim to meet somewhere about halfway between the two of you on neutral territory. Neither person should have to travel too far out of their way.

Think about the time of day you want to meet. Lunchtimes are perfect for a first date. Meeting for lunch means that the date can carry on if you both want it to. It also gives you a chance to make a feasible excuse to leave if things aren’t going right.

Try to keep things relaxed and try to give your date an indication of what you have planned. Your date will want to dress for the occasion and will feel silly turning up in evening wear if you are planning a sky diving trip.

Stay within your means. Choosing the most expensive restaurant in the city will certainly be impressive and is likely to ensure a second date but if it is well out of your price range steer clear.

Be prepared. Turning up late on a first date is not a good start. Make sure you allow plenty of time for travel and that you have directions to where you are going. If you turn up far too early you can always sit down for a drink elsewhere while you wait for your date to arrive.

Be patient. If your intended meeting time arrives and your date hasn’t turned up, don’t panic. Don’t call your date constantly to check that they are coming. If your date is running late, they should probably give you a call to let you know.

Watch what you drink. Getting totally drunk on a first date can be an instant killer. Do not drink heavily in order to stem your nerves; it is likely to lead to complete disaster.

Be clean. It goes without saying, really, that you should turn up for your date clean and presentable. Do dress in clothes that make you feel comfortable and that leave room for dessert.
